However, In the US,\nroughly 2.5 million auto accidents occur in intersections each year. US consumers have found numerous reasons to support\ntheir purchase of imported autos. Arguments included performance, economy,\nstyle, and a plethora of other advantages. But the most frequent and compelling\nhas been safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent decades America has been importing\nanother vehicle for auto safety. This time, it\u2019s not automobiles, and it is\nconsiderably less popular with American drivers. Roundabouts, an alternative to\nintersections, have long been popular in Europe. Why? I\u2019ve seen some reasons, none of which make sense. What does makes sense are traffic circles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Speed &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Slower speeds reduce damage and fatalities<\/li><li><strong>Eliminates Left Turn<\/strong> &nbsp; Why does UPS give drivers routes designed to avoid turning left? Because it reduces accidents and delays.<\/li><li><strong>Energy Efficient<\/strong> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Braking to a full stop waste fuel. Starting from a dead stop is even more inefficient.<\/li><li><strong>Trigonometry&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Eliminates many of the more dangerous angles in which a car can be struck. <\/li><li><strong>Safety &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Most important, roundabouts lead to improved safety. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Institute for Highway Safety reports that roundabouts reduce crashes involving injury by 75%. Even more amazing the study reports collisions with fatalities are reduced by 90%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Coming full circle on street and highway intersections<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why isn\u2019t your insurance agent talking about\nroundabouts? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There may be a good reason, but I can\u2019t think\nof a single one at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Insurance agents sell products that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insuringky.com\/blog\/?s=indemnity\">indemnify <\/a>the insured in the event of a loss.
